PLAN COMÚN (2012, Paris, FR & Santiago, CL) is an architecture practice based in Paris and Santiago, represented here by Kim Courrèges (°1984, FR), Felipe De Ferrari (°1983, FR) and Nissim Haguenauer (°1982, FR), together with Charles Bedin of Studio Emile in Brussels. Working across architecture, urbanism, research and construction, their practices share an interest in collective space, direct forms of making and architecture as a framework for everyday life.
At the centre of Plan Común’s work is an interest in the commons and in architecture’s capacity to support collective use and imagination. Through simple and often radical architectural tools, the practice questions conventional hierarchies between private and shared space, seeking to maximise collective space across housing, public buildings and urban environments.
This approach intersects with Bedin’s material and construction-based practice through Studio Emile. Their collaboration on Maison Commune in Pantin brought architectural design and metalwork into direct dialogue, with Studio Emile developing the building’s handrail system as a project within the larger project. Together, these approaches emphasise architecture as a collaborative process shaped through design, construction and the knowledge of those involved in making it.
