During Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility, thanks to artist Adrien Tirtiaux, the old connecting route between the Site Sint-Jan and the Minnewater literally resurfaced. Tirtiaux not only uncovered the remnants of that road, he started talking to people who know the road all too well: nurses, paramedics, hospital staff. These conversations were compiled in the documentary The Making of ‘Under the Carpet’ and were opened to the public for the first time during Open Monument Day at the former Minnewater clinic.

About the film

The short documentary follows the making process of Under the Carpet, Adrien Tirtiaux's three-part installation exhibited during Triennial Bruges: Spaces of Possibility from 13 April to 1 September 2024. The installation invited visitors to TRIBRU24 to (re)discover the old connecting road between St John's Hospital and the Minnewater Clinic.

As the Belgian artist rolled up the musta carpet and re-exposed the old connecting road, Magda and Georges blew the dust off their memories of the place where they first met. After all, the road not only formed a vital link between two care facilities, but also connected the lives of visitors, staff and local residents.
