Artist Adrien Tirtiaux designed the artwork Under the Carpet for Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility: a three-part artwork that invites you to rediscover the disused link road between St John's Hospital and the Minnewater Clinic.

Tirtiaux not only uncovered the remnants of that road, he also started talking to people who know the road all too well: nurses, paramedics, hospital staff. Brugge 2030 made a short documentary of those conversations, which can be seen during Heritage weekend.

The documentary follows the making of Under the Carpet. As the Belgian artist rolls up the carpet of moss and re-exposes the old connecting road, Magda and Georges reminisce about the place where they first met. After all, the road not only formed an essential link between two care institutions but also connected the lives of visitors, staff and local residents.

This documentary is an initiative of Brugge 2030, the City of Bruges' candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2030, with the support of Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility.
