BLACK LIGHTNING

Be enclosed by the dark and awaken your senses.

Once you enter Schneider's architectural intervention in the church of the Grootseminarie, you walk through a dark corridor that is completely closed off from the church interior. The passage is like a funnel that leads you through the darkness like lightning and in which different senses are stimulated. You are left to your own presence, perhaps sharing the highly sensitive experience with a fellow visitor. Along the way, there is time for solitude and transformation until you reach the exit.

Gregor Schneider

The minimal visual language of Gregor Schneider (°1969, Rheydt, DE) combines the architecture of buildings with the symbolic layering of a city. The viewer moves through its rooms, cellars, containers and corridors, continually confronted with an unusual atmosphere.
