In a packed conservatory of Groendienst Brugge, two Dutch design firms shared their vision of the nature-inclusive city, each from their own practice. Architectural firm Studio Ossidiana - which designed Earthsea Pavilion for Bruges Triennial 2024 - seeks to generate new encounters between humans and animals, thus re-anchoring our relationship with nature in our built environment. Co-founder Alessandra Covini explained their main projects and described the impact they had on the fauna and flora in their surroundings.

The Rotterdam-based Bureau Stadsnatuur conducts ecological research through inventories, monitoring networks and volunteer projects for flora and fauna in the urban area. As a result, they built up a wealth of knowledge about the nature of the city of Rotterdam in general and the Rotterdam port area in particular. Using playful anecdotes and examples, ecologist André de Baerdemaeker demonstrated the importance of freeing up space in the city for people, animals and nature.
